Description
An absolutely amazing example of Van Briggle art pottery! This vase was produced in 1905, one year after Artus Van Briggle’s passing. The vase was produced in early to mid 1905 based on the “X” impressed under the date on the bottom. The numeral 300 also impressed on the bottom represents the shape number which also was designed the same year possibly by Ambrose Schlegel, the head potter at the company. Ambrose was known to have designed a number of simple mission style shapes in the early years of the company. The vase stands just under 8” tall with the base measuring approximately 1 1/2” diameter. The top spans about 1 1/4” across. The glaze is quite uniform in color with an awesome thick curdling effect on the top rim. Several pictures reveal a slight color variation about midway down the body evidently caused by slightly different glaze hues used. The vase is free of any chips, cracks, damage or repairs. The inside is clean with no staining or residue. A fine crazing covers the outside and when handled it has the feel of satin. A super piece of classic Van Briggle pottery to fit into any collection! Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description. Please check back to my listings often as I will be posting numerous fine examples of glass, pottery and porcelain in the near future.
Thank you.
