    Description

China in the 1930s was a patchwork quilt of bandits, warlords, mobs, loot, and chaos. US Navy gunboats patrolled the rivers, while US Marines and their Mounted Detachment, the elite "Horse Marines", handled the streets and the surrounding Chinese countryside. They rode tough Mongolian ponies and carried M-1913 Patton sabers to protect American missionaries and businessmen from bands of roving Chinese bandits. The history of that Mounted Detachment has been of great interest to collectors for decades, leading E. Richard Bonham to write an authoritative reference book on the subject in 2015. This "CHINA HORSE MARINE" USMC 1930s Pre-WW2 CAP SWORD WEAPONS PHOTOS REFERENCE BOOK is in near mint, unread condition, with only some light scattered storage wear evident (most pictured). Otherwise, the book is in near mint shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it boasts an elegantly illustrated dust jacket over hardcovers, and sports 192 pages full of history related to the USMC Mounted Detachment in China in the mid-1930s. It features a dress blue uniform, the Mounted Detachment patch, Chinese made fur winter caps and enameled "diamond" plates, a few EGAs, the M-1913 Patton saber, the Mameluke officer's sword, the Thompson SMG, the BAR, and hundreds of rare and previously unpublished photographs. A beautiful example of a "CHINA HORSE MARINE" USMC 1930s Pre-WW2 CAP SWORD WEAPONS PHOTOS REFERENCE BOOK. Now celebrating over 20 years on eBay.
